AAP eBooks supports online access via Internet browser, or offline access on computers through the iOffline program. Mobile access for institutions is coming soon. AAP eBooks supports the following authentication models: IP address, referring URL, username/password.

Note: NRP and Red Book are excluded from the tier model. NRP is available as a concurrent-user model, and institutions interested in Red Book can subscribe to Red Book Online, with images and updates exceeding the utility of the eBook.

An eBook is an electronic version of a book. American Academy of  Pediatrics (AAP) eBooks allows users to read publications on any screen with a browser that supports Flash. AAP eBooks have the look of print books, with all of the layout, figures and images intact. Users can see a page at a time or 2-page spreads, and can zoom in for close study. Users can read books online or download them to computers for off-line reading.

In addition to zoom, reading, and downloading, eBooks are fully searchable and users can annotate, bookmark, and highlight them. Users can search for terms in a single book, across their purchased titles, or across the full site. Users can also print a limited number of pages.

Yes! AAP eBooks are available instantly on purchase; with no wait time for shipping or other delays.

Individual eBooks will be updated when errata are published, and purchasers will have the opportunity to be among the first to see new editions when they are released. Subscribers to collections or the full site will automatically get new editions and new titles when they are available.

All AAP eBooks have sample pages available through ViewInside that users can see before purchasing. Click the View Inside button for a free preview.

iPublishCentral Reader works on both PC and Mac. Disk requirements will vary based on the size of the title.

Once the eBook has been downloaded, it can be viewed off-line at any time.

AAP eBooks currently supports downloads to: PC, Mac, iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, iPod Touch), Android, and Kindle Fire. PC & Mac are through the iPublishCentral Reader program downloadable from the Bookshelf page, and the other devices through free apps in the app stores. Log in with the same username and password you use on the Web site, and you will have access to your titles.

The eBook is protected so that only 1 page can be printed at a time.

Due to the nature of the item, and unlike printed versions of a book, e-books can not be returned. 

Once the ebook is purchased, the sale is considered to be complete and final, as with other AAP electronic products.

A charge will immediately appear on your bank statement under the name Impelsys for the purchase of your eBook(s) at ebooks.aap.org

You can tag your eBooks by hovering over the cover image in the Bookshelf view. This allows you to easily find eBooks based on how you describe them in your own words.

You can share the preview ViewInside of titles several different ways. When viewing the ViewInside, you can click on the envelope in the upper right to e-mail it to someone, or you can click on the + sign to post the widget to a social networking site or to get the widget code to paste into your own Web site.

Click on the video icon in the book. The video will play in your default mp4 player. If nothing happens, check your operating system and browser settings, and your media player settings to see what is your default player for mp4 files.

Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to make sure you have an updated version of Adobe Flash Player.

The institutional administrator can log in at ebooks.aap.org. In the Reports section, COUNTER reports are available online or as downloads for each year and title. In the Manage Institution area, one can update access information, including users, IP addresses, and/or referring URLs.

AAP eBooks supports the iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone, & iPod Touch running iOS 4.0 or later. Download the free AAP eBooks app from the iTunes App store, and log in to your AAP eBooks account on the About screen. You can then go to the Bookstore, choose Download Now next to the titles you have purchased but not downloaded. When they have downloaded, they will appear on the My Bookshelf screen. You can use Browse in the AAP eBookstore screen in the app, or return to ebooks.aap.org to purchase additional titles.

1. Download the iOS app from the App store link http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aap-ebooks/id448911068?mt=8
   
2. Please login using your registered credentials for "Account" tab.
   
3. Then, tap on the "Close" button to close the "Account" window.
   
4. Next, please tap on "My Bookshelf" tab at the bottom of the iPad app.
   
5. Here, your purchased eBook(s) will appear to be grayed out. Please tap on the eBook, it will start downloading to the "My Bookshelf" in the app.
   
6. Once it is downloaded, tap on the eBook to read it.

The eBook can be downloaded as long as the computer is online at the time. From My Bookshelf, click on the link to download iPublishCentral Reader. Follow the prompts to download and install the iPublishCentral Reader and the Adobe AIR program. You can then log in to your AAP eBooks -- use http://ebooks.aap.org for the account URL and your access information for the AAP eBooks Web site. You will then have all of your titles available to you for offline viewing.

Please follow the below instructions to install the iPublishCentral Reader application to your PC/Mac and download the eBook to the iPublishCentral Reader.

Once you login using your account you will notice a button “Download iPublishCentral reader”.

Click on the download button to go to installation page. Click on install button to set up iPublishCentral reader on your system.

When you use iPublishCentral reader for the first time, you need to login(top right hand side) with the following information:

Log in as Normal user

1. Select Normal User.
2. Enter the URL in the Site URL (http://ebooks.aap.org/) field.

3. Use your registered  log in credentials to log in to iPublishCentral Reader.

• Enter your user name in the Username field
• Enter your password in the Password field
• Click the Sign In button
4. Click the Sign In button.

   If the login credentials are incorrect, then an error message will be displayed "Failed to Authenticate. Invalid Site Information".

   Bookshelf displays the subscribed eBooks with a Download button.

The iPublishCentral reader will verify your account details. If the account details are correct, the reader will continue to load. Once loaded, you can see all the books that you have subscribed online with a download link for offline reading.

Click on the sign-in link on the top right of the home page to get to the log-in screen. Type your user name and password into the correct fields on the log-in screen to log into your account.

Click on the "My Folder" link and choose the "Profile Setting" option, from the drop down list choose "Change Password", enter a new password and click "OK". Your password will be reset to the new password.

AAP eBooks can be acquired in multiple ways. Individuals can purchase individual titles for the life of the edition through the site. Institutions such as libraries, hospitals, and practices can subscribe to the entire AAP eBook collection by contacting ebooks@aap.org. Collection subscribers will automatically receive updates as soon as they are published to the Web site.

Individuals can access their titles using the e-mail address and password they used to purchase. Institutions can access via IP address, referring URL, or e-mail address/password combinations. Once you have logged in, the “My Bookshelf” page will display the eBooks to which you have access. Clicking on the book cover will then open the eBook, making it accessible for you to view.

The top panel allows you to change your view of the book by clicking on one of its icons. Scrolling over the icons before clicking will initiate a pop-up burst indicating what that particular icon can change. These include:

• Switch to double pane view
• Switch to single pane view
• Zoom the page
• Fit the page to height
• Fit the page to width
• Toggle full-screen mode.

You can create Notes for a specific text in a paragraph or for the entire paragraph in the reader. You can view the list of Notes in the reader, edit the title/description of the Notes and delete the Notes. You can also show or hide the Notes in the reader.

• Click  for the list view and   for the thumbnail view of My Notes along with page numbers
•  a. To Create a Note :There are two options to Add Notes.

Option 1

1. Click  on the toolbar.
2. Place the cursor on the text in the reader. My Notes pop-up appears.

3. Click on the Title box to add title for the notes.
4. Click on the Description box to add description of the notes.
5. Click on the Save button.

When the Note is saved in the eBook,   appears on the screen.

Option 2

1. Place the cursor on the text to create a Note and click the right mouse button. My Notes pop-up appears.
2. Click on the Title box to add title for the notes.
3. Click on the Description box to add description of the notes.
4. Click on the Save button to save the Note, else click Cancel.

   When the Note is saved,  appears on the screen.

The Bookmark which is created appears in upper left corner of the page. You can view a list of Bookmarks in your eBook, edit the description of the Bookmark and delete the Bookmarks from your eBook.

1. a. To Create Bookmarks

1. Click  on the toolbar. The icon appears blue and My Bookmarks pop-up is displayed.

    

   1. Enter the description in the Description box. It is not mandatory.
   2. Click the Save button to save the Bookmark, else, click Cancel.
   3. When it is saved, the bookmark   is displayed.
      

2.  To view a Bookmark

   1. Click   at the left side of the reader. A list of Bookmarks is displayed.
   2. Type the text in Search My Bookmarks to find a specific Bookmark.

    To modify Bookmark description

   1. Click  at the left side of the reader.
   2. Click My Bookmarks. A list of Bookmarks is displayed.

   3. On mouse over for a specific Bookmark,  appears.
   4. Click on   to edit the bookmark.

      My Bookmarks pop-up appears.

   5. Place the cursor in the text box and modify the description of the bookmark.
   6. Click the Save button. When you mouse over on the bookmark, the changed description is displayed.

    To filter a Bookmark

   1. Click  at the left side of the reader. A search field and a list of bookmarks are displayed.
   2. Enter the text or a word in Search My Bookmark field.

   A list of searched bookmarks is displayed.

    To delete a Bookmark

   1. Click  at the left side of the reader.
   2. Click My Bookmarks.

      A list of Bookmarks is displayed.

   3. On mouse over for a specific Bookmark,  appears.
   4. Click on  to delete the bookmark. A pop-up appears for confirmation.
   5. Click the Yes button to delete the bookmark else click No.

Type a search term or phrase in the search text box and click on "Go" to search the eBook content. Choose Catalog to search the title, author, description, and other information about the eBooks, or Content to search the full text of the eBooks. You can search within an eBook, across the eBooks you own, or across the entire AAP eBooks Web site. Your search results will appear in a column on the right-hand side of the page. Specific search terms usually result in more targeted results. Note: The search option is disabled when viewing the book in the full-screen mode.
